Focused review

AI Opportunity Review

Find the opportunity worth pursuing.

Turn an emerging AI opportunity into a clear, evidence-backed direction.

A focused five-day review of the question, the real workflow, the available data and the assumptions that matter.

You'll leave with a clear recommendation on what should be prototyped, investigated further or deliberately set aside.

What, if anything, should we pursue?

What we do

Most promising AI ideas begin as interesting possibilities rather than clear investment decisions.

A workflow could be transformed. A body of knowledge could become significantly more useful. A new capability may suddenly appear technically possible. The challenge is rarely generating ideas. It is determining which opportunity is genuinely valuable, technically credible and grounded in the way people actually work.

Over one focused week, Flink Labs reviews the opportunity in its real organisational context. We examine the workflow, people, available data, technical possibilities and practical constraints to determine which version of the opportunity is most worth pursuing.

We identify the assumptions on which the opportunity most depends, compare credible technical and product directions, and determine where a prototype could produce meaningful evidence. The result is not simply a collection of ideas. It is a considered recommendation about what should be prototyped, what remains uncertain and what should be left alone.

The work combines deep knowledge of modern AI systems with more than twenty years of experience designing intelligent software, digital products and research-led prototypes. The review moves comfortably from AI models and system architecture through workflows, organisational constraints and strategic considerations without being handed between separate specialists.

Rather than beginning with a preferred technology or implementation approach, the objective is to understand the opportunity itself and determine whether it deserves further investment.

What you leave with

A defensible direction for the opportunity.

At the end of the week you'll have a defensible direction for the opportunity and confidence about whether it deserves further investment.

You'll understand:

  • what should be prototyped,
  • what questions the prototype needs to answer,
  • which assumptions deserve to be tested first,
  • where the principal technical, data, workflow and adoption risks lie, and
  • what is not worth pursuing.
  • whether the opportunity is ready for further investment at all.

This is not a conventional discovery workshop or a generic AI strategy exercise. It is a principal-led review designed to reduce uncertainty before you commit to an AI Prototype Sprint, implementation programme or significant technology investment.

This engagement is the best choice when:

  • You can see a meaningful AI opportunity, but its strongest form is not yet clear.
  • Several possible directions are competing for attention or investment.
  • The idea appears compelling, but has not yet been tested against the real workflow, available data or user context.
  • You need an independent review before commissioning an AI Prototype Sprint or implementation.
  • You want to understand whether AI creates genuine value rather than assuming that it must.
  • Your team needs a clear direction around which it can make an informed investment decision.

Opportunity review outputs

Shaped around the question being explored.

Every review is customised around the question being explored, but typically includes:

Opportunity Definition

A concise definition of the opportunity, the problem it could address and the decision being considered.

Workflow & Context Review

A visual review of the workflow, people, information, systems and operational context that shape the opportunity.

Assumptions & Options Review

An examination of the assumptions, technical possibilities, data considerations, constraints and competing directions that matter most.

Prototype Brief

A practical definition of the concept worth testing, including its scope, objectives, success criteria and the questions an AI Prototype Sprint should answer.

Decision Review

A concise findings document and decision discussion summarising the recommended direction, trade-offs, risks and what should not be pursued.

What, if anything, should we pursue?

If the recommendation is to proceed, the outputs become the foundation for an AI Prototype Sprint.
There is no obligation to continue beyond the review.
